What is ethanol gas and is there a difference between that gas and regular gas from other competitors, i.e. BP?

Ethanol is grain alcohol, mainly corn. Sometimes gas from "off-brand" vendors isn't as good. Try various vendors, and see which one works best in your car. I use BP or Shell in my Audis and VWs and they run very well.
