Why don't we just get rid of cars?

I have a simple solution to many of the major issues that we as Americans face, and all of these solutions involve the extinction of the automobile. All over the the great United States people cry and whine about being too fat. Fear and concern about rising gas prices plague our "blessed" nation. Scientists fear we are destroying ourselves via polution from our car exhaust. Automobile accidents claim the lives of hundreds of thousands of people every year. Why don't we simply stop using cars altogether. If people walked everywhere, obesity would become a minority in the health department. If we had no cars, gas prices would be no problem: more money to ourselves. If we had no cars, the ozone layer would no longer be in danger. If we stopped using automobiles, car accidents would not happen. People get paid to figure stuff like this out? Good grief!
