Hypothesize how does chance affect combinations of genes?

i have to hypothesize this for a school lab introduction. Now if you can answer, please inform me how it is that chance effects the combinations of genes during meiosis. or you can also think of the quetion like "how the pricnciples of heredity are related to chance" since the teacher demand of us that all parts of the lav contain only information learned within this lesson then it sort of narrowed it down to meiosis. Bacause if i were to ask "how the pricnciples of heredity are related to chance" there are many times when chance takes effect, bt the only one metioned in the lesson was meiosis. So if you can plese, hypothesize this it would be a great help. I will not take your words and use them as mine but i need some ground to base my answer on.
